This telephone is used for providing communication between the Train Driver/Guard and an Emergency Controller at a Divisional Office. It works on 4 Wire underground cable circuits with a 3V battery supply. The HMT uses a PTT switch.
The telephone is housed in a Mild Steel Box for portability and rugged use and employs dynamic transducers for the transmitter and receiver capsules for speech clarity and long life. A nylon strap is provided to carry the telephone during the field use. The send and receive efficiencies have been enhanced to provide good audibility over long distances. The insertion loss is held low to minimize loading the lines.
