This is a very compact SMPS based battery charger unit. It is intended to provide stable 12 V D.C. Power to a Selective Calling Telephone along with automatic battery backup during power failure. It works off 110V / 220V mains and charges the battery using a constant voltage current limited mode of charging. A maintenance free sealed battery is housed inside the charger unit. Whenever there is a power interruption it is immediately detected and the internal battery is brought into circuit. The battery is very compact and requires absolutely no maintenance throughout its service life.
It carries a Battery Monitoring Circuitry for sensing a low battery condi¬tion in case of a fault such as a mains/fuse failure. If the battery voltage drops to 11 Volts an audio alarm is turned on along with a visual indication.
The back panel carries the DC and AC fuses along with the DC outlet. A switch is provided to cut off the battery from the circuit when the charger is not in use.
