This equipment is connected to a divisional office DTMF exchange and allotted a distinctive subscriber number (say 8888). The existing 4 Wire Trans and Receive lines can also be connected to this equipment so that a remote location (say an accident spot) in a 4 wire area can access the exchange located in the divisional office. Special DTMF equipment provided at the remote location will become a subscriber of the divisional office exchange through this interface. Divisional office can dial the remote telephone and vice versa.
The equipment has all the hardware required to interface a 2 Wire telephone exchange to a 4 Wire telephone in a remote area. In addition it can also respond to special DTMF signals from the remote 4 wire telephone to connect it to the local exchange. The equipment is housed in a compact module which can be easily interconnected to the exchange and the underground cable pairs. Indications are provided to monitor the status of the line during ringing and conversation.
